Understanding
Meaningful Coincidences
by Donna May
All of us have had
experiences that were synchronistic. Most people call them coincidences.
Often we are amazed by these incredible occurrences, but are these just
coincidences or is there something else happening at a deeper level?
Carl Jung explains: “Synchronicity is the simultaneous occurrence of two
meaningfully but not causally connected events.”
The Law of Synchronicity
and the Law of Attraction seem to work closely together. Things that I
once thought of as coincidences, I now attribute to vibrational matches.
Each thought we have sends out a vibrational signal to the Universe.
Similar people, events and circumstances line up and come together. In
other words, as Abraham says, “That which is like unto itself is drawn.”
Perhaps you randomly
opened a book and to your amazement found on that page exactly what you
needed. You may have turned on the radio or the TV just at the right
time to see or hear something significant to you. Was there ever a time
when you were thinking of a person and suddenly the phone rang and you
heard their voice on the other end? Maybe you met someone you knew, far
from home, while on vacation. Did these things happen by chance or were
these examples of the law of synchronicity? The more we acknowledge
these occurrences the more frequently they tend to happen. It’s as if by
thinking along a certain line, we draw or attract experiences that are
on the same wave link. Abraham (Esther Hicks) states: “Every thought
vibrates, every thought radiates a signal and every thought attracts a
matching signal back. We call that process the Law of Attraction.”
I have been amazed and
fascinated by how the “universe” seems to arrange meetings that surprise
and delight us when, at a conscious level, we did nothing to make them
happen. A year ago, we were at a marina taking our boat out of storage.
As we were trying to hitch the boat trailer to our truck, a man pulled
up on a motorcycle and told us that he was riding by and happened to
notice our boat. He recognized it as the same boat that he had purchased
in 1995. It had been owned by two other people before we bought it in
2002. He helped us line up the trailer with the truck and get it ready
to haul to the launch site. It was so interesting to talk with him about
places he had taken the boat and experiences he had. Now, a year later,
we were launching our boat and to our surprise, that same man was there
and came over to say hello and asked if we had remembered to put in the
boat plug. We hadn’t, so again he was there at the right time to help us
with this boat that he once owned and loved! By the way, we named our
deck boat “Good Vibrations.”
Have you ever had the
experience of trying to make something happen and it just wasn’t
happening on your time table? Could it be the universe had a different
plan for you? Recently, we had planned to attend a casual meeting at a
coffee house with our state representative. We were trying to get there
by 10 am, but we experienced one delay after another. When we arrived at
10:20, we were surprised to meet some friends whom we had not seen in
five years. They were leaving the coffee shop as we were entering. They
said they had never been there before, but just happened to drop in that
morning. If the timing had been any different for either couple, we
would not have run into them. It was great to connect with this couple
again. We still had time to meet with our state representative, as well.
Dr. Wayne Dyer says, “The
word ‘connectedness’ is vital to understanding the principle of
synchronicity. In some mysterious, undefinable way, everything seems to
be connected, even though we cannot see the connections. In some strange
way, the right person or the right series of events crops up just in
time to help us over the threshold of some troubling problem. Once we
understand that everything is connected in some way, even though we
cannot see the connectors, this universal principle of synchronicity
becomes more believable and ultimately more available to us.” Learning
about the “Law of Attraction” makes this process even more
understandable. For further information about universal laws, I would
recommend Ask and it is Given and The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent
both by Esther and Jerry Hicks.
You may want to keep a
record of the coincidences that happen in your own life. Like dreams,
they fade from our recollection if they are not written down. To me
synchronistic events confirm that our consciousness is not
self-contained but that our consciousness moves everywhere and affects
everyone and everything. We truly are all connected.
