The Dance Of Prayer (Part 3)

The best way to pray is the way that helps you feel connected with Spirit. People connect to Spirit in a myriad of ways.

What do you want? This is the first thing to decide. In order for the Universal Intelligence to know how to flow through you, it has to know what you want. It cannot know until you do! There is no separation between you and Source. Often people put so much energy around what they don’t want and what we focus on expands. Knowing what we don’t want is important because it helps us to decide on what we do want. We just don’t want to put too much energy into what we don’t want.

Charles Fillmore the co-founder of the Unity Movement says, in his book Lessons In Truth “Desire in the heart is always God tapping at the door of your consciousness with its infinite supply… a supply is useless unless there be a demand for it.” The supply is equal to the demand. We also hear, “Ask and it is given.” Well the origin of the word ask is, demand. How do we demand? We demand by deciding, affirming that our good already exists and that we are open to receiving it. We demand by focusing on Source as our unfailing supply of every good thing. As we really get the understanding of how universal law works we are then able to relax more and this allows Source to move in our lives in an uninhibited way

Resolve things into thought. Think about your desire. What are the qualities of what you desire? In other words, if you had it, how would you feel? How would you be? Yes, you may want the thing, but for the Law to work for you most effectively, you need to know what’s behind the thing. For example, if you wanted a new car, why? When we talk about or journal about why we desire a particular thing we are actually putting ourselves into vibrational harmony with our desire. We have to become a vibrational match to our desire. Reliable transportation may translate into a feeling of being safe, secure and supported. Greater luxury might resolve into an experience of Life’s true nature (because the real nature of life is abundant wealth.) Just because you need your own transportation may translate into freedom of movement and so on. So let’s dance.

The first step in the dance of prayer is recognition: remind yourself of the nature of Life/God/Spirit. This is the main ingredient in affirmative prayer: recognition. You must know what the nature of Source is before going further. If, for example, you used to believe that God was an angry, vengeful God, now is the time to remind yourself of the greater truth. Remind yourself of the lawful and loving nature of God. In Unity we are taught that God is absolute good and that because that is true it also means that we are absolutely good too. We are not birthed out of original sin but out of original grace. (See phenomeNEWS January 2007 for a more in depth understanding of recognition.)

The second step in the dance of prayer is unification: remind yourself that you come from Life/God/Spirit. If God exists and is everything good and wonderful, but you’re on the outside looking in, why even bother to pray? Remind yourself that God is the source and the creator of everything, including you and including your desire. Everything is made out of substance and Source is the substance out of which everything is made. We shape this substance with our thoughts, words and our feelings. The third step in the dance of prayer is realization: know that if you can desire it, imagine it, picture it, it must exist in Mind. Otherwise, where did you get the idea? Remember, the first premise is that there exists a fundamental Unity. There’s no place other than Mind to get your idea.

Charles Fillmore says, “Desire for anything is the thing itself in incipiency.” That means the thing you desire is not only for you, it has already been started toward you out of the heart of God and your desire is but a sneak preview of what is to come.

In order for your prayer life to be truly effective, keep contemplating spirit’s nature as your own; when you have an inner feeling of “yes!” that’s when the realization arrives. When you open your eyes, your desire may not be sitting on the floor in front of you, but don’t be fooled... Mind is already at work unfolding it.

If doubts arise, don’t just turn away. Face them! Talk to fear, let it know what you know. Often I will tell fear, “Thanks very much, but God’s got that!” Fear is always going to be with you, it’s OK to acknowledge fear; it’s not OK to let fear immobilize you. If you feel that you could never afford a new car, you might say, “Infinite Mind has given me this desire and along with it everything I need to let the power of law flow through me, manifesting my desire in perfection and joy. God is supply; God is wealth, so there is nothing to fear... because God is right where I am.”

When you have recognized that God is all there is and completely unified with that belief, the “realization” comes that “all is well” and that “it is done.” When you have experienced a richness and deepening as a result of the first two steps, the third step is a declaration of the Truth you have realized. It is always worded in the first person and in the present tense. You are not asking for anything. You are declaring and affirming the Truth and that it is already done. This is where understanding faith comes in.

What you are seeking is seeking you. Everything – past, present and future – is now floating in that stream of consciousness that we call Infinite Mind. We do not so much originate thought as we register thought that is already in Infinite Mind. All future inventions are already known in that Mind long before human inventors allow those inventions to download in their mind.

Remember: The realm of ever-expanding good has already been given to you. If you don’t believe it, Source can’t do anything more for you. You might say:
The Truth of God is the Truth of my life. I easily and effortlessly accept my greater good, knowing it is my Divine right and privilege to experience the very best that life has to offer.

There are no obstacles, past experiences or beliefs, which can keep my good from me. I am always in the right place at the right time and the Intelligence of God within is in perfect action at all times.

There are no mistakes in Spirit and this is the Truth of my life. Therefore, all is well, all is in order and Life supports me completely.

In closing I am including this love prosperity prayer that I say each day:

LOVE PROSPERITY PRAYER

Love is my financial advisor
My prosperity is unlimited.
Love fills my life with abundant good.
Love is my golden key to infinite riches.
Love guides me in its way of joy,
peace and prosperity.
Even though I may wander into seeming lack, I shall not fear, for love is always with me. Its nurturing substance prospers me.
Love provides abundantly for me to easily pay all financial obligations.
Love fills my life and my bank accounts with unconditional money, my
wealth overflows.
Thankfully, love prospers me in every wonderful way, every day of my life.
And I forever do business in the
nature of love. Amen.
