The Z Type's Manifesto for Wealth
(Part 1)
by Shaheerah Stephens
Meyer Friedman, an American cardiologist,
noticed in the 1940s that the chairs in his waiting room got worn out
from the edges. It had been hypothesized that his patients were driven,
impatient people, who sat on the edge of their seats when waiting. These
people were labeled “Type A” personalities. Type A personalities are
work-aholics, always busy, driven, somewhat impatient and so on. Type B
personalities, on the other hand, are laid back and easy going. And
believe it or not there is a new type personality…Type Z.
On a recent trip to Florida I picked up a
book in the airport entitled, The Type-Z Guide To Success... A Lazy
Person’s Manifesto for Wealth and Fulfillment by Marc Allen. I was
looking for a book on “synchronicity” because so many synchronistic
events have been unfolding in my life. Actually, finding this book was a
synchronistic experience.
My son has just opened a new
carpet/upholstery cleaning business. He worked for General Motors and
his bosses were mostly Type A and he is definitely a Type B so there was
a constant need for reality checks. “B” types often attract “A” types as
partners and bosses because there is something for both types to learn
and integrate. I am a Type B and now that I have read the book, The Type
Z Guide to Success…A Lazy Person’s Manifesto for Wealth and Fulfillment
by Marc Allen, I see that I am also a Type Z. So now you are wondering,
what is Type Z? Type Z personalities are more in touch with “how” they
do what they do and they set their intention on doing everything in a
“relaxed, easy” manner.
The A types are driven, so quiet time for
them feels like death. They “have” to do something. This busy, driven
energy doesn’t “feel” good to the B type or the Z type. Just being
around the A types can tire me out. Marc says in his book, “I’m lazy. No
one has ever called me a Type A or a workaholic. I’m more of a Z (as in
zzz...).” Marc is a multimillionaire yet he believes and has proven that
you can succeed in an easy and relaxed manner.
There’s no physical difference between a
successful person and a poverty case. However, there is a mental
difference. Successful people have learned how to focus their creative
mind, their imagination, on a goal; and then take the first obvious
steps in front of them.
Too many people are working hard. They
work so hard that they don’t take the time to work smart.
First of all it is important to do what
you love. What do you want to do with the rest of your life? Marc talks
about a little game that he played in his early 20s at a church. “Let’s
imagine five years have passed and everything has gone as well as we can
imagine… what would our lives look like?” Marc says, “This game changed
my life.”
Can you imagine your ideal scene five
years in the future? That little game taught him to dream, imagine and
create. He says that it took him about 5 years of constant course
correction to reach the first of his major goals, a successful company
supporting himself and others. Understand that life is a journey and so
is success. It is important to enjoy the journey and the process. Each
day is a delicious day. Rudy Lawson an awesome singer/musician sang a
song at our church and it says, “Everyday above the ground is a good
day.” The Z types understand the importance of living in the moment and
cherishing each moment when we can be consciously aware of the Presence
of God.
It took Marc about 10 years to fully
realize his ideal scene which included a spacious and quiet home in
northern California, which he lives in now. I share this so that you
will begin to understand “process, time and timing.” He said, “I had to
deal first of all with my core beliefs.”
Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you
can or can’t, you’re right.” You can change your thinking and literally
change the quality, texture and reality of your life. I know you have
heard that a million times and it is true, yet what have you been doing
to change your life?
Marc says, “You can change your beliefs
through a simple process called the core belief process. All it requires
is for you to be honest with yourself.” Here’s the process:
What is the problem?
What emotions are you
feeling?
What physical sensations
are you feeling?
What are you thinking
about?
What is the worst thing
that could happen in this situation?
These questions bring your
deepest fears to light.
What is the best thing
that could happen?
What fear or limiting
belief is keeping you from creating what you want?
Create an affirmation to
counteract and correct the negative, limiting belief.
Say or write your
affirmation repeatedly, over a period of several days.
Shakti Gawain recommends this little
exercise: “Write your affirmation ten or twenty times a day if
necessary, until you feel you’ve absorbed it as a positive core belief.
If negative thoughts come up, write those thoughts on another sheet of
paper and then keep writing the affirmations on the other page until it
feels free of any emotional resistance. In the end, throw away your
doubts and fears.” This will assist you in creating a new reality. We
must start at the core though.
Marc used this process when he was at a
financial low: $65,000.00 in credit card debt and on the verge of
bankruptcy. He realized that he had core beliefs: I am a fool with
money. I am out of control. I am heading for trouble. He then found an
affirmation that directly contradicted those beliefs. He chose
affirmations that felt good to him. “I am sensible and in control of my
finances. I am creating total financial success.” It’s important for you
to write your affirmations down in big letters and put them in different
places so that you can see them constantly. When fears come up and they
will, you are to turn to your affirmations and affirm them. The more
Marc affirmed that he was sensible and in control, he found himself
being sensible and in control. Managing his money became very simple. He
found the steps that he needed to make this process simple also:
1. Spend less than you
make.
2. Start saving.
3. Get out of credit-card
debt.
4. Start building a
diversified portfolio of investments.
5. Get into real estate
somehow.
It all works. Affirmations work. Making
goals work. Writing your ideal scene works. Prayer works.
Auto-suggestions works. What are you working with? Negative and limited
thinking works as well. The universe says “yes” to whatever we are
giving our attention to.
Jesus had to be a Type Z, he said, “Seek
ye first the kingdom and it would all be added unto you.” Do your inner
work and watch how the outer work gets done. Work as you are inspired to
work. Seek the guidance first from the source and stop spinning your
wheels and running around in circles. Balance is the name of this game.
Whether you are Type A, B or Z; enjoy the
moment and remember that it’s your birthright to be happy, healthy and
prosperous.
